The “Hirono Bangkok Art Exhibition and Event,” the world’s largest showcase of Hirono art, has made its international debut in Thailand. Pop Mart Thailand, a prominent figure in the Art Toys industry, has partnered with Central Pattana Public Company Limited to curate this expansive event, covering an impressive 2,400 square meters. The exhibition runs from June 27 to July 22, 2024, at the prestigious Central World shopping center in Bangkok.
This landmark Hirono exhibition is strategically divided into four distinct zones, each offering a unique perspective on the artist’s work:
1. The first zone features an awe-inspiring display of Gigantic Figures. Four colossal pieces, each standing over 3 meters tall, have been imported from China. These sculptures, from the renowned Reshape and Elephant in The Room collections, allow visitors an unprecedented opportunity for close interaction and photographic documentation.
2. The second zone presents a carefully curated selection of fashion and lifestyle products available for purchase. These items reflect a nuanced commentary on contemporary life, drawing inspiration from the uncertainties of our era. The designs predominantly feature earth tones, moss greens, and subdued hues, often incorporating distressed techniques to evoke themes of imperfection and life’s inherent struggles.
3. The third zone transports visitors into a darkened gallery space, showcasing a special collection of paintings titled “The room where he belongs” by Lang, the visionary creator of Hirono. This intimate setting, featuring 11 original works, provides a rare insight into the artist’s personal reflections and creative process. Personally, this is the zone I like the most.
4. The final zone is dedicated to limited edition Hirono figures, exclusive to the Thai market. Notable pieces include the Hirono Elephant in the Room Figure Thailand Limited, featuring a distinctive wood color palette, and the debut of the Hirono x Keith Crossover collection. The Hirono City of Mercy Series and other collector’s items complete this unique offering.
In a creative collaboration, Greyhound Café has developed a bespoke beverage menu for the event. Of particular note is the Thai Tea Crack, an innovative concoction that produces an audible crackling effect when the glass is squeezed – a sensory experience that mirrors the fragmented themes in Hirono’s work. Visitors can experience this unique drink and listen to its distinctive sound in this video clip.
The “Hirono Bangkok Art Exhibition and Event” is open to the public until July 22, 2024, at the plaza in front of Central World shopping center. To ensure a structured and comprehensive viewing experience, both walk-in visits and pre-registered tours are available.
