The Ministry of Culture has announced the artistic team for Thailand Biennale, Phuket 2025, scheduled to take place from November 2025 to April 2026. This fourth edition of Thailand Biennale will explore the theme “Niranthara” (Eternal Kalpa), focusing on the sustainable relationship between humans and nature.
Artistic directors for this edition are Arin Rungjang, a 2020 Silpathorn Award recipient and one of Thailand’s representatives at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013, and Associate Professor David Teh from the National University of Singapore, known for his extensive writings on contemporary art in Thailand and Asia. The curatorial team includes experienced veteran Marisa Pantiratshudi and Hera Chan.
The concept “Niranthara” was described to use various art forms to examine the sustainable relationship between humans and nature, addressing the challenges of coexistence and the vulnerability of the natural world. It will explore themes of technology, resource use, ecosystem degradation, and capitalist exploitation, while presenting the concept of “time” to encourage appreciation for different temporal experiences and respect for diverse life rhythms.
This event marks the fourth Thailand Biennale (the inaugural edition held in Krabi in 2018). The Phuket edition promises to promote cultural dimensions of the economy and elevate Thailand’s cultural role on the international stage.
