The Hermitage Winter Palace, a grand museum in Russia, has announced the auctioning of 5 legendary paintings transformed into NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) on the Binance marketplace. This event marks another significant movement in the world of art, following the sale of Michelangelo’s Doni Tondo NFTs by the Uffizi Gallery in Italy for 5.3 million Baht in mid-May.

The Hermitage is an ancient museum established in 2307 BE and currently houses around 3 million artworks. The 5 selected masterpieces turned into NFTs for this occasion are by renowned artists: Leonardo da Vinci, Giorgione, Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Wassily Kandinsky. These artworks, which are must-see attractions for visitors, have been digitally transformed into NFTs and include the following:

Composition VI, 2423 BE, by Wassily Kandinsky
Lilac Bush, 2423 BE, by Vincent van Gogh
Judith, 2047 BE, by Giorgione (Giorgio Barbarelli)
Corner of the Garden at Montgeron, 2419 BE, by Claude Monet
The Madonna and Child or Madonna Lita, between 2033-2043 BE, by Leonardo da Vinci

The museum describes the auction on Binance as offering high-resolution, ultra-level digital images of each artwork. These NFTs come with the signature of Mikhail Piotrovsky, the director of the Hermitage. Two copies of each artwork will be created, with the first copy given to the winning bidder and the second copy preserved at the Hermitage, alongside the works of the 5 featured artists.

The winning bidder will also receive an NFT VDO featuring the moment of Piotrovsky signing and certifying the artwork, with a precise timestamp.

Mikhail Piotrovsky shares his perspective on this NFT project, stating, “NFTs offer a path for democracy, allowing luxury to be accessible while retaining its uniqueness and extraordinary nature. We will expand opportunities with other technologies to present collections in our palace, experimenting with new benefits from these emerging technologies.”

In addition to winning the auction, the winner will have the opportunity to commercially exhibit the acquired artworks. The Hermitage itself plans to showcase all the NFTs from this auction in an art NFT exhibition later this year.

The auction will commence today, August 31, 2564 BE, at 18:30 (Thailand time) and will run until September 7, 2564 BE, at the same time. Bidding will start at 10,000 BUSD, approximately 320,000 Baht. Those interested can view the auction at https://www.binance.com/th/nft/events/winterpalace.
