Marina Abramović NFT 2025 Debuts at Taipei Dangdai
Performance art icon Marina Abramović has officially entered the digital arena once more. Collaborating with TAEX, she has unveiled her latest NFT collection titled “Marina Abramović Element” at Taipei Dangdai 2025.
The nine-piece collection of Marina Abramović NFT 2025 comprises animated NFTs and will be released in three thematic phases: ART, LIFE, and MAM (Marina Abramović Method). The first artworks from the “ART” chapter will be made available for collection starting 18 June 2025.
First Release: “ART” – Animal Icons and Symbolism
The debut “ART” set reinterprets animals that have appeared throughout Abramović’s decades-long career, this time positioned over her own face in animated form. Each of the three pieces draws from her personal mythos and artistic legacy.
Scorpion (2025) – This NFT references Abramović’s legendary photograph “Portrait with Scorpion (Homage to Frida Kahlo)”. The original image paid tribute to Mexican surrealist Frida Kahlo, known for painting herself with monkeys—symbols of desire in Aztec mythology, but reimagined by Kahlo as loyal companions.
In contrast, Abramović chose the scorpion, an emblem of danger and vulnerability that has defined her endurance-based performance art. This image later became the cover of her 2016 memoir, Walk Through Walls.
Octopus (2025) – Inspired by her 2019 photograph “Portrait with Octopus 2”, this work features inverted color palettes to highlight themes of fluid identity in a chaotic world. The octopus clings to Abramović’s face, symbolizing adaptability and inner complexity.
Snake (2025) – The snake is a recurring motif in Abramović’s practice, dating back to her 1978 performance “Three”, where she and her then-partner Ulay competed to attract a snake toward themselves. Serpents also featured in her extended performance “Nightsea Crossing” and the 1990 piece “Dragon Heads”, where four snakes entwined around her body at Modern Art Oxford.
This NFT honors that enduring relationship with the symbol of the snake—an embodiment of fear, transformation, and control.
How to Collect: Marina Abramović NFT 2025
These three digital works mark only the beginning of a broader NFT campaign. An additional six pieces—grouped under LIFE and MAM—will be released in subsequent phases. According to TAEX, the project will operate on the Ethereum blockchain. Allowlist registration has now opened, with official minting slated for 18 June 2025.
