"Liu Kuo-Sung: Experimentation as Method A retrospective exhibition spanning 70 years of the works of the renowned contemporary Chinese ink painter, Professor Liu Kuo-Sung. Liu Kuo-Sung, one of the most prominent contemporary Chinese ink painters, has curated an exhibition showcasing his works over the past 70 years titled "Liu Kuo-Sung: Experimentation as Method." The exhibition features 60 ink paintings along with personal artifacts along Liu Kuo-Sung's artistic journey, totaling over 150 pieces. The artworks are organized according to a timeline, allowing viewers to witness the evolution of ideas and artistic styles over seven decades of this visionary ink artist's career, from the 1950s to 2020. It is truly a captivating display. The exhibition takes place in two galleries at the National Gallery Singapore. The exhibition is open for viewing until November 26, 2566 (2023). Commemorating 100 years since the arrival in Siam in 1923 of Corrado Feroci, an Italian sculptor who played a prominent role in the development of Thai modern art and who later came to be known as Father of Modern Art in Thailand, an exhibition will be held to reflect on his cultural legacy left behind for his adopted country. Apart from his state-commissioned sculptural works on important monuments throughout Bangkok, his cultural policy vision has also been far-reaching, resulting in the various and important initiation of cultural institutions that have played their part in the ensuing decades to keep his dreams alive. Among these are the Bhirasri Institute of Modern Art, Thailand’s first public art gallery, and the School of Fine Arts which later became the Silpakorn University. The Bhirasri Institute of Modern Art (BIMA) came into being in 1974, after years of campaigning by art patrons and artists who were determined to see his vision realized after Feroci’s demise in 1962. BIMA was named in memory of Feroci, using his Thai name, Silpa Bhirasri. The Institute operated until 1988, during which time it hosted numerous ground-breaking exhibitions, as well as music, theatre and film programmes. It became known for…

Preecha Raksorn, is a Thai contemporary artist from Suphan Buri who graduated from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University as a skilled painter who works in many styles, especially the bold and deft realistic paintings which appear in this exhibition. The artist mentions the exhibition’s name The Sleeping Spirit "These images, therefore, emerge as I am defeated by the habit of doing the same thing over and over again, like a spirit that never wanted to be reborn. It just keeps wandering in the same old world forever."
