Auction Details

Vincent van Gogh’s painting “Les canots amarrés (Moored Boats)” from 1887 is set to be auctioned for the first time in 30 years. The auction will take place at Christie’s Hong Kong on September 26, 2024, with an estimated price between HKD 230 million and HKD 380 million (approximately THB 966 million to 1.6 billion). If sold at the highest estimate, this painting will become the most expensive Western artwork ever auctioned in Asia.

Thje Painting

The painting was originally part of the Bourbon-Two Sicilies Royal Collection and was later acquired by Italian actor Edy Vessel at a Sotheby’s London auction in 1991. “Les canots amarrés” is one of three landscape paintings Van Gogh created at Asnières in the northwest of France in 1887. The painting reflects Van Gogh’s more liberated painting technique and vibrant colors, capturing the beauty of a splendid summer.

Van Gogh Auction and Exhibition

“Les canots amarrés” will be on display at Christie’s new headquarters in the Asia-Pacific region in Hong Kong from September 22 to 26, 2024, prior to the auction.
